Acacia Avenue - A Social Study

So who are the people in Acacia Avenue and what are their lives like?

We spoke to more than 200 people across 15 Acacia Avenues across the UK. Some key findings and stats from our study:

  • Almost two thirds (60%) of residents rated their happiness as eight out of 10 or over, making Acacia Avenue an extremely happy place to be!
  • The majority (28%) of residents have lived on Acacia Avenue for 5-10 years and 16% for more than 30 years
  • Half of the residents live in a semi detached house. Most houses (64%) have three bedrooms and almost a quarter (24%) have two bedrooms. Only one in ten houses have four or more bedrooms
  • Acacia Avenue is primarily a place for families and older couples - 32% of residents are in their 40s and 21% are in their 50s. 34% were 60 or older
  • The majority of residents (57%) are married. Only 10% of the residents we spoke to were divorced (well below the national average)
  • Cats are the most popular pet on Acacia Avenue, with one in ten residents (10%) owning one
  • Garden gnomes are popular on Acacia Avenue - 8% of the residents we spoke to had them in their gardens
  • The average worker on Acacia Avenue earns £22,500, works 36 hours a week, has been in the same job for 11.5 years, and travels just 21 minutes to work
  • The biggest employer on Acacia Avenue is the NHS, with one in seven (14%) residents working for them
  • The area of life most (18%) of Acacia Avenue's residents would like to change is their income - only 6% want to change the area they live in
  • The Acacia Avenue resident's favourite pastime is watching TV with 78% stating this is how they spent their free time
  • Only 2% of Acacia Avenue residents say they do the housework in their free time!
  • Nothing beats fish and chips: four out of ten (41%) say this is their favourite food
  • Viva Espana - Spain is Acacia Avenue's number one holiday destination: almost a quarter (23%) have had a holiday there in the past five years
